I’ve gone the past 24 hours without speaking. My conclusion: talking is overrated.
It wasn’t too hard. Teaching class posed to be a bit of a challenge—but nothing that a guest speaker or two couldn’t fix. And with a dry erase board, a computer, and texting, who needs speech? I even participated in meetings and a conversation-heavy lunch with co-workers.
Sure, I’ve gone long periods of time without speaking in the past (the last being the time I bit off part of my tongue the day before Thanksgiving), but this was different. This time, I did it for the same reason that Nick Cannon married Mariah Carey: A lady on a bus once told me that I was mentally adventurous. With that said, my temporary abstinence from speech wasn’t for a cause or stance, and it wasn’t because I was trying to become a pilot in the Air Force. If anything, I did this because there are only 7 days in a week.
Maybe I’ll talk tomorrow.
